Busy Summer Ahead

Sunday, May 22nd, 2011

Now that spring semester’s over, the team is ready to get back to what we all really love to spend our Friday evenings doing — building robots! Those of us left in Raleigh have been hitting it hard, making sure that Seawolf will be ready for this year competition which is only a little more than 6 weeks away.

Two of our mechanical guys Tim and Alex made the trip up from Charlotte to finish assembly Seawolf’s new frame. It looks awesome, and look for some time-lapse footage of the assembly to be up in the near future. They’ll be back up this week to move all the connectors and circuit boards to the new Pelican case and we’re all very excited to give the new Seawolf its first test run in the next couple weeks.

A new “smart” powerboard designed by Kevin and his senior design team has also started to see some in-water testing this past week. It boasts some nice features such as over current protection and current/voltage monitoring for all lines.

Acoustics has been coming along with some successful out-of-water testing, and some less successful in-water testing, but I’m optimistic that the issues can be worked out.

Software has also seen good progress. Michael has been working on object detection with mixed results, but it looks promising nonetheless.

That’s all for now, but look for more updates to come and hopefully with more pictures!

Welcome to the blog of the NC State Underwater Robotics Club. We’re a student group that participates in the annual RoboSub competition (formerly AUVSI AUV competition). To learn more about the club you can visit our website at and check back here for updates as we work up to the competition in July.
